I found an old hymn book at an estate sale in Greensboro, NC. It is titled “The Hymnal – Army and Navy”.  There was no Air Force back then.  The book was published by A.S. Barnes and Company Incorporated 1942. The copyright on the book was 1941.

I came across some hymns that I attempted to update. I hope I did not do too bad. The hymns are:

  1. How Sweet and Silent is the Place.  The writer of this song is listed as Alice Freeman Palmer.
  2. How Sweet the name of Jesus Sounds. The song writer for this song is James Newton.
  3. A third song not in the hymnal that I came across is “Dear Lord Jesus, Precious Jesus is credited to Watchman Nee.
Watchman Nee, or Ni Tuosheng, was a church leader and Christian teacher who worked in China during the 20th century. In 1922, he initiated church meetings in Fuzhou that may be considered the beginning of the local churches.

The are the three song that make up my project called 1942.

 Dear Lord Jesus

How Sweet and Silent is the Place
How Sweet the Name of Jesus Sounds
